Regal Review: King Felipe and Queen Letizia's Introductory Visit to Italy
On November 19th, 2014, King Felipe and Queen Letizia made their Introductory Visit to Italy, as part of tour of European countries following their accession to the Spanish throne.
They were first officially welcomed by President Giorgio Napolitano and the First Lady Clio Bittoni at Quirinial Palace where a private meeting took place.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia then met with the President of the Senate, Pietro Grasso, and his wife, Maria Grasso, the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Matteo Renzi, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Laura Boldrini.
On November 20th, 2014, Queen Letizia spent her second day in Italy as she attended the Second International Conference on Nutrition in Rome.
In her speech, Queen Letizia said: “Ladies and gentlemen, placing the problem of nutrition on the international agenda is one of the objectives of this summit. Each country has its own circumstances and requires specific solutions. In Spain we are committed to public health at all levels of government. And with regard to nutrition, we try to promote the sustainability of the traditional Mediterranean diet as an integral part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This includes a diet based primarily on the consumption of products of plant origin (vegetables, greens, legumes, fruit) and moderate and constant exercise, among other things. But it is also advisable to reduce the consumption of processed foods, promote local and sustainable agricultural production and encourage the consumption of seasonal products, whenever possible. You know well what I mean by this, since it has to do with the ecological footprint left by the transport and distribution of food.”
On the first day, Queen Letizia wore her Felipe Varela black and white suit with her Magrit pumps and her Felipe Varela chevron clutch.
On the second day, Queen Letizia wore her Felipe Varela dress with red pumps, her Magrit clutch, and TOUS earrings.
