King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visit Gotland County
On Wednesday, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Gotland County as part of King Carl-Gustaf’s Jubilee celebrations.
They first visited Gotland's museum in Visby, where they saw the exhibition “1361 - the battle for Gotland” as well as the Treasury with silver and gold objects from the Viking Age.
Afterward, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia took part in a tree-planting ceremony in Almedalen.
In Almedalen, the Royal Couple also attended a jubilee event with a performance by Elin Andersson among others.
In his speech, King Carl Gustaf said: “Sweden has become both bigger and smaller in various stages since the days of Gustav Vasa. After all, Gotland did not become Swedish until the peace of Brömsebro in 1645. Although Gotland had already belonged to Sweden since the Middle Ages. The Medieval Week, one of Visby's major events, celebrates 40 years this year. Such arrangements are a nice and fun way to keep cultural heritage alive. And – not least – to pass it on.”
They then attended an official lunch hosted by the County’s Governor.
In the afternoon, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Svenskbygården where they saw the exhibition “The Swedish Villagers – a folk scrap in Sweden's History” and learned more about the ongoing aid work in Gammalsvenskby due to the war in Ukraine.
The day of celebration concluded at the National Archives where they saw a display of historical archive documents such as the large medieval seal of the city of Visby and documents about Princess Eugénie.
Queen Silvia wore a repeated suit with her Chanel flats and her Cartier bracelet.
