Crown Princess Mary visits Greenland - Day 2

Crown Princess Mary visits Greenland - Day 2

On Wednesday, Crown Princess Mary spent her second day in Greenland with Mary Fonden.

Crown Princess Mary first attended the conference "Together on Grief" in Nuuk where the National Grief Center published a new initiative, where more volunteers can be contacted on the "Grief Line", at café evenings, and in grief groups.

In her speech, Crown Princess Mary said: “Every time we remember or talk about the one we have lost, we say hello. We get a feeling that they are close. And we carry the missing person with us further in life - and thus also the parts of ourselves that are connected to the dead. As survivors, we need it for many years after their death. Often we need to talk about those we have lost for the rest of our lives. “

Afterward, Crown Princess Mary attended UNLEASH Regional Innovation Lab Greenland 2022 at Ilisimatusarfik - University of Greenland in Nuuk.

The event gathered 200 young people from the arctic and Nordic countries to develop innovative solutions that can contribute to achieving the UN's World Goals.

In her speech, Crown Princess Mary said: “We often hear that the young generation is struggling. More young people than ever are experiencing loneliness and problems with their mental and social well-being. We need to address these issues, and we need to take them seriously. But your generation is so much more. You are reflective, innovative, and full of empathy. You are deeply involved and knowledgeable about the issues in our societies and globally.”

She also met with some of the young people invited to the event to hear their ideas. Mary Fonden contributed financially to the possibility of 12 young people from Greenland residing in Denmark taking part in the event.
