King Felipe and Queen Letizia attend State Tribute for the COVID-19 victims and the health personnel
On Friday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the state tribute for victims of the COVID-19 pandemic and in recognition of the health personnel in the Plaza de la Armería of the Royal Palace of Madrid.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia first delivered the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit to four families of healthcare workers who died during the pandemic. The families were chosen to receive the medal on behalf of all honored healthcare workers.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia then laid a wreath in front of the memorial and a minute of silence took place.
King Felipe also made a speech in which he said: “A little over two years ago, the deepest and most unpredictable uncertainty crossed everyone's lives. The entire world stopped its pace to attend to something that was expanding very rapidly and that, despite all efforts, left behind illness, loneliness, and pain. Health personnel went to the front line without hesitation and faced this new disease with courage and extraordinary effort, which has claimed the lives of more than six million people around the world. So, we felt together the fear, the frustration, and the sadness..., but also, and from the first moment, the solidarity, admiration, and gratitude for all the people who took care of the basic and urgent needs of the others. Nothing can repair the pain of the absence of all these people in their families, their loved ones, their friends, and their environment. “
Queen Letizia wore a Carolina Herrera dress with Carolina Herrera accessories. She also wore her Bulgari earrings and her Karen Hallam ring.
