State Visit from India to the Netherlands - Day 1

Today, the President of India and the First Lady started their state visit to the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima officially welcomed the Presidential Couple during an official ceremony at the Royal Palace.

While arriving at the Palace before the ceremony, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima briefly met with Nadia Rashid whose daughter Insiya was kidnapped by her father in 2016. Insiya and her now-convicted father are currently living in India.

In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima hosted a state dinner for the President and the First Lady.

In his speech, King Willem-Alexander said: “In this year when India celebrates its independence, I wish the Indian people all the best for the future. I wish you a future of peace, freedom, and prosperity. A future in which the voice of reason and tolerance continues to inspire people. A future in which India finds friendship and receives admiration all over the world. A future in which all countries, each respecting the other, uphold the agreements we’ve made.”

For the welcome ceremony, Queen Maxima wore her grey coat with her Victoria Beckham purple dress. She paired the outfit with a repeated hat, her Gianvito Rossi pumps, and a Sophie Habsburg clutch.

For the state dinner, Queen Maxima wore her Luisa Beccaria gown with her Christian Dior clutch, her Aquazzura sandals, and the Aquamarine tiara.
