Sarah found that Queen Silvia wore a purple, floral Nina Ricci gown for Infanta Cristina of Spain's wedding to Iñaki Urdangarín on October 4, 1997. She also wore a red, layered necklace.
The wedding, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, was quite a popular event in Spain. Infanta Cristina wore a custom, simple Lorenzo Caprile gown that featured a three meter train with a veil that was a 19th-century heirloom owned by Spain's National Anthropology Museum. It had been restored for the wedding. The veil was held in place by the Mellerio Floral Tiara.
The gown had an off-the-shoulder neckline with a princess line silhouette. Her father, King Juan Carlos, walked her down the aisle to Iñaki.
It was broadcast live on TVE 1.
Other royal guests included King Simeon of Bulgaria, Prince Albert of Monaco, Grand Duke Henrik and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, and all of the Greek Royal Family (Cristina's uncle Constantine is the King of Greece).
The couple are still married, and together, they have four children.
